As an update on my experiences as a member of the LWB Class of 2017, our class had the pleasure of listening to Judge Joseph Cosgrove zealously explain the multiple branches of government and how our judicial system works. He was very engaging and told us many stories to give us examples of the legal system in general, and enlightened us on his role in our Court system. He also gave us a tour of the Luzerne County Courthouse and filled us in on its history.
Our class then had the pleasure of listening to and questioning Judge Jennifer Rogers, who presides over Family Court, which is held in the Brominski Bldg. across the street to the left of the main courthouse. She enriched us with stories of her experiences as Judge and it was very clear that she loves the law and seeing justice done.
Both speakers wonderfully conveyed their passion for the law and inspired me greatly. We also heard from other attorneys and public officials, including Luzerne County Manager
Attorney C. David Pedri, and had a very nice luncheon with them, which gave our class a chance to
introduce ourselves and get to know them better as well. It was a happy and fun experience.
District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis gave us a very detailed explanation of the duties of the DA’s office and the obligations of all staff members and law enforcement regarding bringing criminals to justice.
Last but not least, we were graciously blessed to have Criminal Defense Attorney Frank Nocito share some of his most intriguing experiences with us regarding his very challenging position in the legal system. I must say he had me on the edge ofmy seat and even shared with us his close relationship with our treasured Mother Theresa, who was truly an advocate for truth, righteousness, and the preservation of human life and dignity, in addition to her sacrifice and work for the poor.
l feel truly blessed to be a part of this special group, Leadership Wilkes-Barre, and a member of the Class of 2017. I strongly believe that everyone who has been part of this wonderful group has experienced things they never would have had the opportunity to do otherwise. I for one am forever changed for the better and extremely grateful to be a part of LWB.
