The most important decision you make when choosing auto insurance is whether or not you want full tort or limited tort. Even though limited tort is less costly, this decision can impact how much money, if any, you will be able to collect when involved in an auto accident. If you have full tort coverage, you are covered for your injuries whether they be major or minor injuries. In the event you choose limited tort, you will need to pass a pain and suffering threshold. Meaning, if you cannot prove you have significant injuries, you quite possibly will not be able to collect auto insurance coverage. The choice is yours, but it is safer on all counts to choose the full tort option for peace of mind and to be fully protected.

Also, if you have two or more vehicles on the same policy, please make sure that you have stacked coverage. You cannot choose stacked coverage if you only have one vehicle, but in the event you have more than one vehicle, choosing stacked coverage is a win/win situation. Without it, you will only be able to collect for one car, if you have stacked coverage than the coverage you can collect on increases by the total coverage on each car combined giving you double or even triple the coverage, depending on how many cars are insured under the one policy.

Some people also have a question as to the difference between UM and UIM coverage. By choosing UM coverage, you are covered in the event the person driving the other car involved in the collision does not have any car insurance. With UM coverage, your own auto carrier will pay to cover you when the other driver cannot pay. By choosing UIM coverage, you are covered in the event the person driving the other car involved in the collision does not have enough coverage to pay for your damaged car and injuries. For example, if you have $25,000.00 worth of damages and injuries and the other driver only has $15,000.00 worth of auto insurance, you can only collect the $15,000.00 from them; However, with UIM coverage you can collect the remaining amount from your own auto carrier if you have made this smart choice.   Regardless of your situation, it is imperative that you always choose UM and UIM coverage for your vehicle.
